Positive: There are two Hilton hotels in Chengde with the same abbreviation: Hilton Garden Inn Chengde. We wanted to relax for a week in this city with manifold historic sites, and assumed that the hotel we booked (“Garden”) with the addition “Mountain View” would be located in a green area and therefore relatively quiet. The opposite was the case: it was in the noisy city center, without a garden, without a mountain view, and had not been renovated for 25 years. We didn't want to stay here, so we canceled this hotel and moved to the other hotel with the suffix “High Tech Zone.” This hotel was newly built, quiet, and very clean. It is much closer to the train station of the high-speed train. At the same time, there are countless inexpensive restaurants of excellent quality on the other side of the street. There is also a supermarket right next door. A nearby night market offers an incredible variety of freshly prepared local food specialties. The hotel manager was extremely friendly and helpful, as were the staff at the reception and in the restaurant. The breakfast is great and also offers freshly prepared dishes. The fruit selection could be a little more extensive, but otherwise there is nothing missing. You can also dine à la carte there if you don't feel like leaving the hotel in the evening. We were highly satisfied with the week we spent there. You can reach all of Chengde's historic sites quickly and inexpensively by taxi. We can therefore recommend this hotel without any limitation.
